2026 Board Member Elections Information – Annual Meeting is September 26, 2026
AEC Members will elect board directors for districts 3, 7 and 8 prior to the 2026 Annual Meeting. You may view the district map and the incumbent directors on the link at the bottom of this page. AEC provides notification on election procedures to the membership for review. A copy of the Cooperative bylaws can be found here. Additional 2026 election information is as follows:
Nominations accepted from the membership to the board between May 29 – July 13, 2026
Any fifty (50) or more members of the Cooperative (in good standing and whose premises served by the Cooperative are located in the directorate district of the candidate), acting together, may make additional nominations in writing over their signatures, listing their nominee in like manner, not less than seventy-five (75) days nor more than one-hundred twenty (120) days prior to the meeting, and the Secretary shall post such nominations at the same place where the list of nominations made by the Committee is posted.
AEC Board to appoint the Nominating Committee between May 29 – July 13, 2026
It shall be the duty of the Board of Directors to appoint, not less than ninety (90) nor more than one-hundred twenty (120) days prior to the date of a meeting of the members at which the directors are to be elected, a Committee on nominations, consisting of nine (9) members of the Cooperative who are not existing Cooperative employees, agents, officers, directors or known candidates for director or close relatives or members of the same household thereof, and who are so selected that each of the Cooperative’s Directorate Districts shall have representation thereon in proportion to the authorized number of directors from or with respect to such District.
Deadline for Nominating Committee to post nominations – July 28, 2026
The Committee shall prepare and post in an appropriate place at the principal office of the Cooperative at least sixty (60) days prior to the meeting a list of nominations for the directors to be elected, listing separately the nominee for each Directorate District from or with respect to which a director must, pursuant to this Article, be elected at the meeting.
AEC Board to appoint Credentials and Election Committee between May 29 – August 27, 2026
The Board of Directors shall, at least thirty (30) business days before any meeting of members, appoint a Credentials Committee, consisting of an uneven number of members and who are not existing Cooperative employees, agents, officers, or directors, and who are not close relatives or members of the same household thereof.
Ballots mailed to the membership August 29, 2026
Ballots and member verification documentation shall be mailed to members at least twenty business days prior to the annual meeting. Ballots are presented to members residing within the district which is eligible for election.
Notice to the membership between July 28 – September 21, 2026
Written or printed notice of the place, date, and hour of the meeting and in the case of a special meeting or of an annual meeting . . . not less than five (5) nor more than sixty (60) days prior to the date of the meeting. Official notification will be made on billing statements.
The 86th Annual Meeting will be held at Jefferson County High School on September 26, 2026
Registration will be open at 10:00 – 11:00 am and the business meeting will begin promptly at 11:00 am in the Performing Arts Center.
Board Member Elections: A Voice in Governance
One of the pivotal elements of our Annual Meeting is the board election process. This action provides members a unique opportunity to nominate and/or elect a board member from their district. The election cycle runs on a three-year term. Members in each district are encouraged to participate. This democratic process ensures that the leadership of our cooperative is representative of the entire membership.
Your participation in the election allows you to have a direct say in the governance of Appalachian Electric Cooperative. By electing board members who understand the unique needs and concerns of your district, you actively contribute to shaping the future of our cooperative.
